Natalie Hasell is the Warning Preparedness Meteorologist (WPM) with the Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC), which is part of Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). Nat has lived and worked in Winnipeg for almost 2 decades and has been the WPM since early 2011.
MSC’s mandate is to increase and improve public safety, community resilience, and education with respect to high impact weather, and what the WPMs do is exactly in line with that.
This can be seen in Nat’s work informing the general public about severe weather and what precautions to take in advance and during these events through media interviews and awareness campaigns; in her endeavour fostering relationships with the emergency and disaster management community and keeping them abreast of weather-related issues; and in her training partners and volunteers to understand and spot high impact weather to help
keep people safe.
Nat would like to thank the Manitoba Disaster Management Conference for this opportunity to highlight the work she and her team do as well as work accomplished across the department to assist and support the emergency and disaster management community.
